The player’s father, Luis Diaz, came forward and shared some details of the kidnapping after being held captive for more than 12 days. Despite the fact that the situation traumatizes him, he says that he does not intend to leave Colombia, since almost his entire family is in the country.
Luis Manuel Diaz says he spent “almost 12 days without sleep” but was never mistreated by his captors. “Although the treatment was good, I didn’t feel comfortable,” he admitted Sky News.
On October 28, the parents of the former Porto footballer, who now plays for Liverpool, were kidnapped by armed men while they were at a gas station in Barrancas, a Colombian city near the border with Venezuela. The 26-year-old’s mother was released a few hours later.
Operations to rescue the player’s father continued for 12 days using air and ground means and he was eventually released this Wednesday.
“I strive to stay in my city. The government has given me impressive and very strong support. I believe and trust that this will ensure my safety in Barrancas,” he said.
