Portuguese maritime police intercepted 34 migrants on the Greek islands of Kos and Lesbos

Portuguese maritime police found 34 migrants on Thursday during two surveillance operations on the island of Kos and Lesvos in Greece, police said this Friday.

During surveillance at the land border near the Cos marina, maritime police officers discovered “eight men and two women traveling on public roads” at 6:25 a.m. Thursday (4:25 a.m. Thursday in Lisbon). in the press release he singled out the National Maritime Administration (ANM).

Also on Thursday, during a land patrol on the island of Lesvos, maritime police officers found 24 people, six men, 17 women and a child, in a “boat that came ashore.”

“All people were removed from the water and immediately handed over to the Greek authorities,” the statement said.

The Portuguese Maritime Police participates in Operation Poseidon, under the auspices of the European agency Frontex and with the support of the Greek Coast Guard, with the aim of controlling and monitoring the Greek and external borders of the European Union, in the fight against cross-border crime, within the functions of the European Coast Guard.
