The purchase of more than 50 aircraft from TAP is being investigated by the Department of Investigations and Criminal Affairs (DCIAP) due to alleged suspicions of corruption, SIC Notícias reported this Friday.
Above average payouts for the planes purchased by Fernando Pinto for TAP will be at stake. The company was public at the time and was already run by David Neeleman.
The administration requested the review, completed in July, following suspicions of embezzlement of millions of euros.to pay for gloves to business intermediaries. According to sources contacted by SIC, prices will be 20% higher than the actual cost.
Already in October, the former Minister of Infrastructure pointed to the suspicions in Parliament. Despite the audit of contracts for the purchase of TAP aircraft Pedro Nuno Santos and Fernando Medina were never made public and they decided to send a joint complaint to the State Ministry, which was filed in October.
At the end of December, the DKIAP department responsible for investigating corruption crimes received a request, but no steps have yet been taken.
