Angola’s ambassador to Lisbon highlighted on Friday the “excellent relations” with Portugal and stressed that “economic relations, as well as economic and business cooperation, are a vital basis for maintaining this privileged relationship.”
Maria de Jesus dos Reis Ferreira, speaking at the official ceremony marking the 48th anniversary of Angolan independence, which is celebrated this Saturday, added that she noted “with satisfaction” that the Angolan state recognizes “the existence of more than four thousand Portuguese companies developing activities” in your country.
The diplomat stressed that the Angolan government “is making every effort to ensure that direct private investment in Angola has a more rapid growth, especially in the priority areas identified by Angola and in which Portuguese companies have significant experience.”
In this regard, he recalled that the visit of Prime Minister António Costa to Angola last June “made it possible to deepen the dialogue and strengthen bilateral relations of friendship and cooperation”, “as well as strengthen partnerships in various fields, in particular in the economic and financial sphere.”
Also regarding this visit, the Ambassador of Angola added that it was then announced that “the strengthening of public credit” was announced. [por parte de Portugal]of more than 500 million euros to support Portuguese companies operating in Angola”, considering this “a tangible contribution to strengthening the participation of these companies, also in accordance with the government development program” of your country.
Maria di Jesús Ferreira also recalled that during this visit, “important cooperation documents were signed between the two countries, focusing on the Strategic Cooperation Program for 2023-2027, in line with the strategic priorities of the Government of the Republic of Angola, as set out in the National Development Program, as well as areas where Portugal has recognized its experience of comparative advantage.”
On the social network Facebook, the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs congratulated Angola on the 48th anniversary of independence.
“Happy Independence Day, Angola! The excellent relations between Portugal and Angola are based on the historical ties and friendship between the two peoples, as well as a shared commitment to peace and prosperity,” the message said.
