Spanish rider Pedro Acosta (KTM) became Moto2 World Champion this Sunday, finishing second in the intermediate category of the World Speed Championship at the Malaysian Grand Prix.
Acosta crossed the line 7.128 seconds behind the winner, compatriot Fermin Aldeguer (SpeedUp), while his compatriot Marcos Ramirez (American Racing) finished third with a time of 9.558 seconds.
With these results, Acosta reached an unattainable 320.5 points against 243.5 for the Italian Tony Arbolino (Mac VDS), who was only 10th this Sunday.
This is the second World Championship title won by Pedro Acosta in three years, after already being Moto3 champion in 2021, the year of his World Championship debut.
This season, Acosta has seven wins and 14 podiums in 18 races already won.
“The goal was to win every race, but I learned from the mistakes I made last year. This year I took things more calmly and when I didn’t win I was second or third,” emphasized Acosta, who will race in MotoGP with KTM in 2024.
In the Moto3 category, KTM claimed its sixth constructors’ title in a race won by Dutchman Colin Weijer (Husqvarna). The third place of Spaniard Jaume Masia (Leopard) allows him to maintain his championship lead with 246 points, 13 more than Japan’s Ayumu Sasaki (Husqvarna), who was second today.
