Olive oil becomes more expensive by 73.5% in one year and rice by 16.6%

The basic foods that have increased the most in price in the last year are olive oil (73.5%), rice (16.6%), potatoes (15.9%), pork (13. 8%), sugar (12.3%) and whole milk (11.6%).

He olive oil prices continue to rise and have become more expensive by 73.5% in the last year, 6% in the last month and 150.7% since March 2021, according to data published this Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics ( INE).

Also called ‘liquid gold’ began its current upward path in April 2021, when a year-on-year rise of 2% was recorded, which expanded to 5% in May. From there and for 28 consecutive months, it has become more expensive at double-digit rates, until September.

In interannual rate, these are the foods that have increased the most in price in October:

– Olive oil (73.5%)

– Rice (16.6%)

– Potato (15.9%)

– Pork (13.8%)

– Sugar (12.3%)

– Whole milk (11.6%)

Compared to these foods, which led the year-on-year price increases, these are the foods that have risen the least in price in the eighth month of the year in relation to October 2022:

– Edible oils (-29.5%)

– Flour and other cereals (+0.5%)

– Pastas (+0.8%)

On the other hand, the food that has increased the most in price in the last month is fresh fruit (9.5%), even ahead of olive oil (6%).

The price of food It continues to rise well above the CPI both in the Basque Autonomous Community and in Navarra. In October the interannual CPI was 3.5% in the BAC and 3.2% in Navarra, while food prices became 9% and 9.6%, respectively.
