On Tuesday, the Israeli army confirmed the death of soldier Noah Marciano, who was kidnapped and held captive in the Gaza Strip by Hamas militants.
The soldier appeared in a video released by an Islamic extremist group. The images initially showed her alive, before images emerged of what the group said was the body of a soldier after an Israeli attack in the Gaza Strip.
According to the agency ReutersIsrael confirmed for the first time claims by Hamas, which has in the past claimed that dozens of hostages from the Oct. 7 attacks have died or disappeared since the war in the Gaza Strip.
The Army statement did not explain the circumstances of the soldier’s death, only describing the case as “the death of a hostage at the hands of a terrorist organization” and adding that Noah Marciano served as a private in the Border Defense Corps.
