A 24-year-old man arrested on suspicion of stabbing another man following an argument on a public road in June in Palmela will await trial in pre-trial detention, the police judiciary (PJ) said on Tuesday.
The detainee, who faces charges of attempted murder and possession of a prohibited weapon, attended his first judicial interrogation at the Setubal court on Tuesday and was given the most serious coercive measure – preventive detention.
According to a statement from the Setúbal police, the crime occurred after an alleged rant to the girlfriend of one of the two men who were on a public road. After a quarrel that arose between three men, the detained man approached the victim from behind and hit him several times with a bladed weapon.
Also, according to the SP, the investigation is ongoing to identify the third element involved in the discussion that culminated in the commission of attempted murder.
The alleged attacker was detained on the basis of an arrest warrant and a search, during which a sawn-off shotgun, several types of bladed weapons, narcotic products, cartridges, various ammunition of various calibers and money were seized.
