Frederico Varandas says Porto’s universe has come to life after 40 years

Sporting president Frederico Varandas said this Friday that Porto fans have “woke up” after 40 years, saying that the “dragons” are hostages of the “Praetorian Guard”.

“I saw what everyone saw. I saw what figures from the Porto universe said. I see that after 40 years they have awakened to life. Who they have at home and whom they have idolized for decades,” he said. , upon arriving at the 41st edition of Roars of Lion, which takes place this Friday at the Quinta do Paul, in Ortigos, Leiria.

Frederico Varandas, who explained that he will speak about Sporting during the ceremony, commented on the Extraordinary General Assembly (AG) of FC Porto, marked by confrontation between the partners, which led to the suspension of the main meeting.

“The club is hostage to the Praetorian Guard, but I think we need to have the courage to say that the real problem is not this Praetorian Guard, but who fed them and gave them power for decades,” stressed Frederico Varandas.

The Lions president also stated that “whoever orders this Praetorian Guard to do this against opponents, judges, journalists, when necessary, also does it against his own members.”

“It has a name and it’s in every social studies textbook,” Varandas said, avoiding asking whether he was referring to Pinto da Costa, the president of the Porto football club.

The day after the GA, the management of FC Porto condemned the disrespect and promised that it would use “the means at its disposal to identify those responsible for the physical attacks and mobilize public authorities” to open disciplinary proceedings. while the Ministry of Public Opinion (MP) has launched an investigation into the incidents noted at the Dragao Arena.

On Thursday, a proposal to revise FC Porto’s statutes, which was due to be considered by the Dragons’ members on Monday, was withdrawn by the Supreme Council.

The Dragons’ General Assembly Council (MAG) president José Lourenço Pinto must now, as MAG president, complete the legal procedures to cancel the main meeting, which was postponed until next Monday.
