Former Dutch international striker Ruud Geels, European champion with Feyenoord in 1970 and one of the greatest goalscorers in Ajax’s history, died this Saturday at the age of 75, the Amsterdam club announced.
“With the death of Ruud Geels, Ajax loses one of the best strikers of all time,” the club said.
Geels also made 20 caps for the Netherlands between 1974 and 1981, going to the 1974 World Cup where the Orange team finished second but was never used.
The striker played 166 games and scored 153 goals for Ajax, becoming the club’s champion in 1977, two years after winning the title with Feyenoord, and his CV also includes the Dutch Cup, Belgian Championship and European Super Cup. Cup.
Geels was also top scorer in the Eredivisie four times in a row, from 1975 to 1978, and top scorer in the UEFA Cup in the 1975/76 season.
