Livre opens the primary process and will hold a program congress in January

This Monday, Livre opened the primary process to select its candidates for the early legislative elections scheduled for March 10, and will hold a programmatic congress in January, the date of which has not yet been set.

According to the published calendar, the collection of “preliminary nominations and Electoral College registrations” for the Livre primaries began this Monday and will end on November 27.

Any citizen can register to vote in the Livre primary election as long as they sign the party’s charter of principles, respect the code of ethics and sign an “agreement of commitment”, otherwise political trust will be revoked.

As for voting, Livre members and supporters can do so in primaries in all electoral districts, and registered voters can vote in primaries held in the district in which they are registered.

According to the calendar, after the process of evaluating and admitting candidates, the domestic primary election campaign will run from November 30 to December 5.

The first round in circles with more than six candidates is scheduled for December 6 and 7.

On December 11 and 12, there will be a second round of voting in constituencies with more than six candidates and one round of voting in constituencies with fewer than six candidates.

The results will be announced on December 13.

Following the primary process, a party source said, Livret will hold a convention in January to set the electoral program for legislative elections.

In a post on its official website, Livre calls for the participation of its members and supporters, as well as “civil society as a whole”, defining itself as “the left that does not give up” on issues such as the Social State, the National Health Service, the climate crisis or human rights .

Livre first achieved representation in the Assembly of the Republic in 2019, when Joacine Catar Moreira was elected, who will represent the party for only about two months. In January 2020, the party deprived her of political confidence, and the deputy lost her registration.

Legislative elections in early 2022 saw the party return to parliament, electing historian and party founder Rui Tavares.

In Portugal, on March 10, 2024, early elections will be held for legislative bodies appointed by the President of the Republic after the resignation of the Prime Minister.

António Costa was the subject of an investigation by the Ministry of State (MP) in the Supreme Court after suspects in the investigation into influence peddling in the Sines data center business named him as the person who interfered with the unlocking procedures.
