US authorities have identified a five-year-old girl who was found dead wrapped in cement near a landfill in Millwood, Georgia, in 1988. 35 years after the crime, police discovered that the child’s name was Kenyatta Odom, nicknamed “Keke.” The mother and stepfather were charged with murder, the newspaper reported. According to the same source, the identification of the girl became possible after the woman filed a complaint in January of this year.
Kenyatta’s body was discovered on December 21, 1988, inside a suitcase sealed with cement. At that time, the doctor who performed the autopsy was unable to determine the child’s cause of death.
Evelyn Odome and Ulister Sanders, “Keke’s” mother and stepfather, were arrested Nov. 9 on charges of qualified murder, aggravated assault and concealment of a corpse.
According to the prosecution, the ex-couple left the child in boiling water, which caused the child’s death.
The investigation into Kenyatta’s identity lasted 35 years and received widespread media coverage.
This year, investigators announced a reward of five thousand euros in exchange for relevant information and an unidentified person called. The complaint made it possible to contact “Keke’s” mother and solve the case.
