Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa (SCML) is in talks with the government to allow some 30,000 users to access family doctors at the facility, provider Lusa said on Tuesday.
This measure, which applies to beneficiaries of the Santa Casa health card, aims to free up vacancies in the health centers of the municipality of Lisbon.
“We intend (…) through an agreement and a program contract with the Ministry of Health to ensure that these people have all the rights in Santa Casa, everything that has access to the family team, to the family doctor. , freeing up vacancies in medical centers for other users,” emphasized Ana Jorge.
According to provider SCML, negotiations with the Ministry of Health are aimed at supporting around 30,000 users who can “choose a family doctor in Santa Casa, with all the rights they have in the National Health Service”. [SNS]”.
“By assigning family doctors to our users, they will be able to remain only in Santa Casa, which will create vacancies. [no SNS] for other people who are not Santa Casa users. (…) This would be an additional benefit for the population of Lisbon, as they could have access to more family doctors,” he said.
Ana Jorge reminded Lusa that since 2010, the medical center in Tellheiras (Lisbon) has treated approximately five to six thousand social media users, leaving open the possibility of people accessing family doctors in other SCML branches.
“We can (…) through this program contract with the Ministry of Health provide more users with access to family doctors in the health centers of Santa Casa, (…) who will have the exclusive rights that all citizens have in the National Health Service. Users of Santa Casa receive an increase in socio-economic conditions or other benefits,” he emphasized.
The service provider argued that this measure complements the SNS by promoting “access to consultation and health monitoring.”
“What we find interesting is that we may have the right to make a choice: either they remain in Santa Casa or exclusively in the NHS. If they remain in Santa Casa, they are also entitled to medical care provided by the health centers. “Don’t they provide (…) in the sense that it is not their remit, (…) and are not entitled to additional diagnostics and treatment, just like any citizen in the National Health Service,” said he is highlighted.
