The family of a missing pregnant woman in Mourtos hired a private team to drain the well where they believe Monica Silva’s body was located. Work to remove vegetation from around the well and water is expected to begin Tuesday morning.
Over the weekend, members of the Murtosa Fire Department, GNR and PJ were at the site, located near Monica’s home and the house where her ex-boyfriend Fernando Valente lived, conducting searches, but they were unable to completely drain the well as a new layer of water appeared. Operators worked all night using artificial lighting.
During the searches, items of women’s clothing were found, but it was not proven that they belonged to Monica Silva.
TO CMAunt Philomena Silva said the officer did not show her all the clothing items collected during the search.
The main suspect is the pregnant woman’s ex-boyfriend Fernando Valente, who is in pre-trial detention. During the interrogation, which ended last Friday, Fernando Valente was unable to explain to the criminal judge why he turned off his cell phone on the same day as Monica Silva’s cell phone, October 3.
The 33-year-old woman, who was seven months pregnant, was last seen on October 3 when she left home for a pregnancy ultrasound and shortly after called her son to say she was coming home, which did not happen.
