Portugal’s average annual inflation rate was 7.8%, the highest since 1992, according to data released this Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
“Rounded to one decimal place, this figure is the same as the value of the quick estimate published on December 30, 2022,” INE said in a statement.
In December 2022, the year-on-year change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 9.6%, down 0.3 percentage points from November.
Excluding energy and unprocessed foods from the CPI, the year-over-year change was 7.3%. (7.2% in the previous month)the highest since December 1993. On a monthly basis, the CPI changed by -0.3% in December (0.3% in the previous month and zero in December 2021).
