The government has declared the public utility of several expropriations of property in Vila Nova de Gaia, through which the Rubi line of the Porto metro will pass, which will connect the Casa da Música with Santo Ovidio.
According to the order signed by the Minister of Urban Mobility Jorge Delgado and published in the Diário da República, the land in question is land that “is of particular importance (…) for the construction of metro stations in Campo Alegre, Deveshas, Soares dos Reis and Santo Ovidio, as well as the PEV1 and PEV4 wells.” Also taking into account “the particular importance of the parts needed for the construction of the Arrábida, Candal and Rotunda stations, as well as the underground passages on Rua Rei Ramiro and Rua André de Castro, in order to guarantee an adequate reorganization of traffic flows in their surroundings, It is therefore necessary to immediately assign administrative ownership of buildings subject to expropriation.”
This line includes the construction of a new bridge over the Douro and will have a total cost of 435 million euros, of which 299 million will be financed by the PRR. Construction should be completed by mid-2026.
The expected duration of the project is 33 months. As for the financial costs of expropriation, Metro do Porto is responsible for them.
