Monica Silva, 33, disappeared two months ago today in Mourtos, but her family has not given up searching for the body of the woman, who was seven months pregnant. They want to hold a funeral and give answers to Monica’s children, who are 11 and 14 years old. “I was with the boys, and the youngest asked me: “Auntie, can my mother come back alive?” I don’t know what to say, it’s very sad. They continue to believe, but we adults no longer have hope. We just need a body,” says Maria do Carmo Pita, Monica’s aunt.
This family member doesn’t believe Monica’s ex-boyfriend, Fernando Valente, who is in pre-trial detention, acted alone. “Monica was already very late in her pregnancy, he needed someone’s help, even if it was to hide the body,” he states.
New searches are planned for this Sunday between the areas of Torreira and San Jacinto in Aveiro. The investigation suggests that she was killed by Fernando Valente, whom the woman called the father of the child she was expecting.
