The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) this Sunday placed eight areas of mainland Portugal under a yellow warning level due to heavy rains that were felt in the late afternoon and early evening.
The areas of Viana do Castelo, Vila Real, Braga, Porto and Aveiro are under a yellow warning from 18:00 to 00:00 Monday due to “heavy rain” that will develop into “downpours,” IPMA warns on its page. .
The same warning has been issued for the districts of Viseu, Coimbra and Leiria, but it is only in effect from 21:00 this Sunday and will last until 3:00 on Monday.
A yellow warning is issued by the IPMA whenever there is a risk to certain activities due to weather conditions.
In addition to heavy rain expected this afternoon in these areas, the forecast for this Sunday across the country calls for strong winds on the north and central coasts and in the highlands from the afternoon onwards.
Maximum temperatures are expected to range from 5 degrees Celsius (in Guarda) to 17 degrees Celsius (in Setúbal), while minimum temperatures are expected to range from -3 (in Bragança) to 8 (in Aveiro).
