Management and unions of Siemens Gamesa will meet on Tuesday, after the announcement of 475 layoffs in the State

More than 2,800 professionals work in total at the five plants that Siemens Gamesa has in Hego Euskal Herria (Zamudio, Asteasu, Mungia, Sarriguren and Arazuri); the ELA, UGT and CC unions. OO. They have shown this Friday their rejection of the cuts.

In this context, the union THE A He has warned Siemens Gamesa that they will position themselves against any “decrease in employment and working conditions”, and has assured that the announcement of layoffs has not “caught them by surprise”.

In the words of ELA, it is “cruel” that more information has not been transferred to the workers’ representatives. As stated by the central, among the staff, there is “boredom and anger” by the situation in the company.

For its part, the Federation of Industry, Construction and Agriculture (FICA) of UGT has shown its rejection of the restructuring plan announced by Siemens Gamesa, and has stressed that “no one is left over” in Navarra, where the company has two plants (in Arazuri and Sarriguren).

At a press conference, the general secretary of FICA-UGT, Lorenzo Ríos, has demanded the “immediate start-up of the employment table, to know exactly the scope of this plan.” “Here we have 1,823 workers, and we demand the restructuring of the industrial fabric and employment to which Siemens committed when it acquired Gamesa,” said Ríos, who called it “inadmissible” for the company to propose an adjustment plan without “industrial justification” .

DC. OO. de Navarra has expressed concern about the company’s decision; it is a measure, he has said, that he rejects and that he “will stand up to.” The union has assured that it will radically position itself against the announcement of layoffs, and that it will mobilize in defense of each of the jobs.

The central questions not only the substance but also the forms of the announcement, since the CEO communicated the decision to the staff by “email, without appearing in person or giving further explanations to the workers of the company.”

The Minister of Economic Development, Sustainability and the Environment of the Basque Government, Arantxa Tapiahas referred this morning to the situation of Siemens Gamesa, and has pointed out that “it cannot be maintained over time”.
