Two men, brothers, 37 and 40 years old, were arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking this Monday in Porto.
The defendants are suspected of having traveled from Colombia with the intention of transporting more than thirty packages of a product described as a natural exfoliant, but which, after testing by the Scientific Police Laboratory, turned out to be Dimethyltryptaminebetter known as DMT.
The substance, which has strong psychoactive effects, can be used in a variety of ways and aims to “free the mind.”
The investigation began with an inspection of a suitcase lost during a flight at Francisco Sá Carneiro airport in Porto by the tax and customs authorities. After analyzing the contents of the suitcase, ATA inspectors suspected that the product contained in the suitcase could be drugs and activated the forensic police.
The police court later discovered that another suitcase with identical contents had already entered Porto, and about 50 kg of drugs were seized in Porto.
After the first judicial interrogation, the detainees were placed in pre-trial detention.
