Divers search the Aveiro estuary for the body of a missing pregnant woman in Mourtos

The underwater search for Monica Silva, the missing pregnant woman from Murtosa, took place on Wednesday morning near Ponte de Varela, at the mouth of Aveiro. The body of the pregnant woman was not found.

The operation was initially coordinated by Monica’s brother, António Silva. However, this is a specialist company hired by the family to conduct searches in the estuary.

The area where the searches took place is dangerous, with poor visibility and a lot of dirt, so the operations are monitored with the support of NCIS.

Before the divers entered, sonar scanned the entire search area and identified 13 suspicious areas and potential hazards.

A security perimeter was established at the site to prevent other vessels from passing through the area during the search.

NCIS also contacted the Murtosa Volunteer Fire Department to assist in the event of an emergency.

Dozens of people gathered at the scene of the operation to express solidarity with the family of the missing woman.
