The first referee course of the “It’s part of the game, come and referee” campaign run by the Council of Arbitration (CA) of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) starts this Wednesday with 694 candidates, the organization said.
“This is an encouraging sign and proof that the player recruitment campaign is going well. It is clear that there is a growing interest in being part of this world and making a contribution to Portuguese football,” said FPF CA President José Fontelas Gomes.
On November 23, CA launched a recruitment drive for football, futsal and beach soccer referees, with an estimated shortage of around a thousand referees in the units overseen by the FPF.
“The impact of this initiative has been remarkable with 694 candidates registering for the arbitration course. The first course will begin this Wednesday with presentation and sharing of the syllabus,” CA said.
This theoretical training, which will be conducted online over two months, will be followed by a practical component in charge of district and regional associations and FPF SA hopes that these new referees will still be able to officiate in the current 2023 season. /24.
