A left ankle sprain suffered by Saint-Just in the 3-1 win against Gil Vicente delayed the centre-back’s rehabilitation plan drawn up by the technical team. Ruben Amorim’s intention was for the defender to gradually pick up the pace and be at the top of his game in early January when Diomande moves to Canada to play for Ivory Coast. Saint-Just is likely to miss Sporting’s next four games between now and Christmas, including the classic match against Porto on the 18th of this month. The centre-back has already suffered six injuries since joining Sporting in the summer of 2022.
DETAILS
Inacio in half in Guimarães
With Saint-Just injured and Coates suspended, Gonçalo Inácio should be the central midfielder in Sporting’s back three when they travel to Guimaraes for Matchday 13. Diomande will play on the right and Matheus Reis on the left.
Returning after a day off
This Thursday, the Sporting team will resume preparations for Saturday’s game at the home of Vitoria, after yesterday taking advantage of the day off granted by Ruben Amorim. The coach does not want any carelessness towards Guimarães in order to maintain an isolated advantage until the classic match with Porto in the next round (18/12).
