33 emergency services with restrictions next week

Thirty-three emergency services across the country will operate under restrictions next week, with “real improvements” in restricted specialties, the Executive Directorate of the National Health Service (DE-SNS) said on Friday.

According to the new plan for the reorganization of the SNS emergency services network, between December 10 and 17, 50 units (60%) of 83 points across the country will be fully operational, with “real improvements in the situation” in the rest. specialties with restrictions and days with restrictions.”

During the week from December 3 to 9, 44 emergency services were operating at full capacity (53%), while the remaining 39 were experiencing difficulties in some specialties, such as Via Verde AVC.

According to the new plan, “there is a clear trend towards improved responsiveness, which is not due to the consequences of recent agreements with doctors and the impact they have on the scale organization.”

The plan states that the specialties with the greatest emergency restrictions are general surgery, pediatrics, orthopedics, gynecology and obstetrics, but there are four hospitals that have emergency restrictions on some days on Via Verde AVC, namely: Viana do Castelo, Guarda, Santarem and García de Orta, in Almada.

In the Northern region, where there are 29 emergency rooms, 11 emergencies will affect some specialties.

In the Center, seven of the 17 locations will be limited, while in Lisbon and the Tagus Valley region, 13 of the 19 emergency departments will operate in some specialties.

The Alentejo region has 12 emergency points without restrictions, while in the Algarve three of the six emergency points will have restrictions.

In the document, the NHS Executive reminds that the pressure of respiratory infections “as a result of their seasonality and the resulting lower temperatures creates new challenges in terms of acute illness.”

However, the organization says the “availability, dedication and effort of professionals, and the ability to organize health services” have resulted in “more consistent and reliable” responses than in previous years.
