Last year, about 254 thousand consumers switched to regulated energy markets. The report is provided by the Energy Regulatory Authority (ERSE), which ensures that the maximum number of electricity consumers is reached: 5.5 million.
Last year, “there was a transfer of 100 thousand consumers to last resort electricity suppliers and 154 thousand natural gas consumers,” according to an ERSE report on retail electricity markets. A decline that the regulator attributes to “volatility” in the markets. As a reminder, natural gas prices have risen significantly, prompting the government to allow consumers to return to the regulated market.
The regulator notes that competition in both the natural gas and electricity markets has increased in the past year. On the other hand, “EDP continued the trend of customer loss recorded in recent years,” retaining 72% of customers in the liberalized electricity market and 46% of customers in the gas market at the end of last year. As for the number of commercial offers in the electricity and gas markets, in 2022 it amounted to 775, of which 126 were double offers.
