Pedro Nuno Santos says the PS is not running for office to become a crutch for the PSD

The candidate for the post of PS secretary general, Pedro Nuno Santos, emphasized this Saturday in Penafiel, Porto district, that his party is running in the elections to win and not “to be a support for the PSD.”

“It is very important to clarify the idea that the PS is a party that claims to win the elections. [de 10 de março] and does not advocate that elections be a support for the SDP,” he said while talking to reporters.

Speaking at the entrance to a rally of socialist supporters from the Vale do Sousa region, which took place in the hall of the Penafiel Business Association, Pedro Nuno Santos added that his candidacy “has always stood for the fact that doors should not close to the right and close doors to the left.”

Therefore, he continued, “this dialogue obviously needs to be maintained, but this is not all.”

For the candidate who will succeed António Costa in the socialist leadership, “it is very important to clearly understand” “the issues on which dialogue can be held.”

Jose Luis Carneiro and Daniel Adrian will also participate in the PS leadership elections, which will take place on the 15th and 16th.

Regarding the International Anti-Corruption Day, which is celebrated this Saturday, Pedro Nuno Santos said that “as the leader of the Socialist Party, it is important to remember that legislation that makes it possible to combat corruption more effectively is almost entirely the responsibility of PS governments.”

“The Socialist Party’s commitment to the fight against corruption is not new, it is a commitment that has always existed and will obviously continue to be a commitment for the future,” he stressed.

Pedro Nuno Santos, on the other hand, highlighted “the statements of the director of the judicial police that he has never had so many means to fight corruption.”

“I believe that both the legislation and the increase in resources prove that the Socialist Party is committed to fighting corruption,” he concluded.

The meeting, held in Penafiel, brought together several hundred activists, leaders and mayors, most of whom were from the Porto district, including federation leader Eduardo Vitor Rodrigues.
