Five days of strike have been called, from December 11 to 15, to demand that the employers’ associations Kristau Eskola and AICE-IZEA sign a new agreement. The centers met with the Department of Education to ask it to intervene in the conflict, but they made no progress.
The unions ELA, Steilas, CC. OO., LAB and UGT have encouraged the teaching staff of social initiative teaching centers to participate “massively” in the five days of strike summoned between December 11 and 15 next, after the meeting with the Department of Education ended without progress.
According to what the organizing unions have reported, in three of the five days there are planned demonstrations in Bilbao, San Sebastián and Vitoria-Gasteiz, while on the 13th and 15th they will demonstrate in front of the headquarters of the Basque Government in Bilbao (Gran Vía 85).
On the first day, December 11, the marches will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Escolapios school in Bilbao, at the Aldapeta Maria school in San Sebastián and in the Plaza de la Virgen Blanca in Vitoria-Gasteiz. Previously, pickets and mobilizations will be carried out in all territories, as reported by ELA in a statement.
The central offices met with the Department headed by Jokin Bildarratz, so that it intervenes to channel the conflict “generated” by Kristau Eskola and AICE-IZEA. “The Department also has the responsibility of controlling transparency regarding the funding sources of the Concerted Schools, as well as guaranteeing adequate working conditions for workers,” they stated. The Department insisted that the responsibility to negotiate the agreement lies with the unions and employers of the sector.
The unions have recalled that the teachers of these centers have already carried out three days of strike in October to demand content for the signing of a new agreement, and that they do not want to repeat the path they had to follow to sign the previous one (they carried out 29 days of strikes in three courses).
