This Monday, Besiktas announced the release of five foreign players, including Abubakar and Rozier, who were already playing for Portuguese teams, due to poor performances and incompatibility with the team.
“Vincent Abubakar, Valentin Rozier, Eric Bailly, Rachid Guezzal and Jean Onana have been excluded from the team due to poor performance and other incompatibilities,” the Istanbul club said in a statement.
Hassan Arat, who took over as club president last week, recently insisted that his priority “is to build the best team possible” and expressed his desire to improve the squad for the winter market.
After 15 rounds, Besiktas, the club where Portuguese star Gedson Fernandes plays, is fifth in the Turkish league with 26 points, 14 less than Fenerbahce and Galatasaray, who share the top spot in the competition.
Cameroon international Vincent Abubakar represented Porto between 2014 and 2021, during which he spent a season on loan at Besiktas, while Valentin Rozier played for Sporting in the 2019/2020 season before being loaned out the following season for rent to the Turks.
