Speaking to journalists this Wednesday, Dersio Chakate, spokesman for the Provincial Command of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in Sofala, explained that the incident occurred late Tuesday afternoon when a patrol stopped “a citizen, apparently 15 years old,” who “showed a visually altered behavior”.
According to the PRM, the minor’s reluctance and “disobedience” followed his attempt to take an AK-47 assault rifle from one of the agents.
“During this direct confrontation with agents, a forced shot occurred that struck a citizen and caused his death,” Dersio Chakate said.
A criminal case has been opened in this case, the agent was detained at the Marromeu PRM police station, he specified.
“PRM is the author most interested in this process and therefore a team was sent to the Marromeu area to assess all the circumstances of this criminal act,” he added.
At least two Mozambican police officers were injured and four people were arrested following unrest during Mozambique’s rerun elections on Sunday, the corporation’s general commander said on Monday.

Mozambican organizations observing the electoral process on Sunday condemned the atmosphere of tension at the opening and closing of the new elections, accompanied by “various irregularities, illegal activities, violence, attempted fraud, shootings and arrests,” mainly in the municipalities of Gurue and Marromeu. .
In Milange and Nacala Porto, repeat elections took place calmly and peacefully, local media reported.
On Sunday, a total of 53,270 voters were called upon to repeat voting in 75 polling stations to choose new mayors in four municipalities where the elections were not recognized by the Constitutional Council of Mozambique (CC) due to irregularities.
The vote was repeated on 18 tables in Nacala Porto (province of Nampula), three in Milange and 13 in Gurué (Zambezia), as well as on all 41 tables in Marromeu (Sofala).
The October 11 elections were strongly contested by the opposition and civil society, who condemned the alleged “mega-fraud”.
On 24 November, the Central Committee of Mozambique declared the Mozambican Liberation Front (Frelimo) the winner of the 11 October municipal elections in 56 municipalities against the previous 64 declared by the CNE, with Renamo winning four, and ordered elections to be repeated in four others.
