The nation’s airports checked in 6.4 million passengers in October, up nearly 12% from last year. In other words, they continue to record historical maximums in passenger traffic, as evidenced by statistics since the beginning of the year, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
According to data published this Wednesday by INE, the number of passengers served between January and October increased by 20.6% compared to the same period in 2022. The average daily arrival in October was 101.2 thousand passengers, which is 10.5 thousand more than in the same month last year.
In the first 10 months of the year, Lisbon Airport handled 49% of the total number of passengers (28.7 million), an increase of 21.3% compared to the same period last year. Porto Airport, which accounted for 22.4% of total passengers, increased by 21.9%, while Faro grew by 18.3%. The UK was the main origin and destination country for flights, followed by France and Spain.
The number of passengers is higher than in 2019, when several passenger traffic records were broken.
With such a volume, it is not surprising that the French da Vincis have already paid for the ANA concession, the contract with which runs for 50 years. According to Público, between 2013 and 2022, Portuguese airports achieved net results that fully recovered their investment. During this period, ANA made a profit of 1,437 million euros, while it spent 1,200 million.
