PCP general secretary Paulo Raimundo said this Friday that he expects from the PS only “proclamations, a “full chest”” and “attempts to create a new image”, regardless of who wins the internal elections of the party’s leadership. party.

“Judging by the words of the two main candidates, the PS is just one. It was not I who coined this word,” but rather “the two main candidates,” said the communist leader, not counting contacts with workers leaving Herdade de Veil. da Rosa, in the municipality of Ferreira do Alentejo (Beja).

When asked by journalists who he would prefer to see at the head of the Socialist Party, the PCP general secretary replied that he had no preference and presented what he thought would happen next.

“If there is only one PS, then what can we expect from the PS after Saturday? From the PS you can expect proclamations, “full chests”, attempts to give a new image, “slogans” and a set of empty ones, but it really touches the heart,” he said.

And, he added, “specifically” will continue “what has happened in particular over the last two years,” that is, “opening the doors to large economic groups with their 25 million euros of profit per day, tightening our policies.” life.”

According to the communist leader, “no matter how incredible it may seem, the reality of the last two years has been that the Socialist Party has completely pulled the rug out from under the SDP, the Liberal Initiative and Cega, who were left without the tools to resist them.”

“They came up with something there, right? Someone shouted here, something there, but in practice they were left without a tool, because the PS provided them with this policy, which took away content from the opposition,” he assured.

Between this Friday and Saturday, some 60 thousand socialist activists are choosing a successor to António Costa as general secretary of the Social Democratic Party. Jose Luis Carneiro, Pedro Nuno Santos and Daniel Adriano applied for this position.

The electoral process in the PS began with the resignation of António Costa as Prime Minister on November 7 after it became known that he was the subject of a judicial investigation launched by the Ministry of Justice in the Supreme Court. , as part of Operation Influencer.

In addition to the new party leader, the Socialists will elect 1,400 delegates (to which will be added 1,100 delegates in essence) to the National Congress, which will meet from January 5 to 7 at the Lisbon International Fair.
