Tom Lockyer, a footballer for English club Luton Town, is undergoing a medical examination after suffering a cardiac arrest during a match with Bournemouth on Saturday.
The Welsh centre-back remains hospitalized, according to a club statement. “Tom is undergoing tests and scans and is awaiting the results before the next steps in his recovery are announced,” the English league crest wrote.
In the 59th minute, the athlete collapsed on the field, and the game had to be suspended; the scoreboard showed a draw (1:1). Medical teams helped him get into the stadium and took him to the hospital.
The club asked that the family’s privacy be “respected at this difficult time” despite understanding “fans’ concerns and media attention.”
