Brazilian women mistakenly detained for more than a month in Germany

Police in Frankfurt, Germany, wrongly detained two women of Brazilian nationality on suspicion of international drug trafficking, a British newspaper reported this Sunday. Sun.

The case dates back to March of this year. Authorities found 43 kilograms of cocaine in the luggage of plane passengers as they disembarked in Germany. Katina Baia and Jeanne Paolini, friends aged 44 and 40 respectively, remained in custody in a women’s prison for 38 days.

According to Zhanna, the seized suitcases did not match the colors, appearance and size of the couple. A Brazilian police investigation has concluded that an international gang changed names associated with luggage at the Sao Paulo airport where the flight departed.

Surveillance footage showed the officer taking the women’s bags without asking them for any identification. When confronted by the police, the man admitted that he received more than eight thousand euros in cash for exchanging the labels.

The couple returned to Brazil free in April. The government has launched a plan to combat this type of crime at airports after recording at least 21 arrests in similar cases.
