The PNV and the PSE voted in favor, while the PP and Elkarrekin Podemos abstained and EH Bildu and VOX voted against. The Minister of Employment, Idoia Mendia, has highlighted that with this law “we climb another step in the construction of self-government.”
The Plenary Session of the Basque Chamber approved this Thursday the first Basque Employment Law, a rule that, according to the second vice president and Minister of Employment and Work, Idoia Mendia, “people and their rights are the driving force.” “Euskadi recognizes decent work“, has said.
The law has been approved thanks to the absolute majority of the PNV and the PSE-EE. The PP and Elkarrekin Podemos have abstained, while EH Bildu and VOX have voted against. This is a rule that aims order the actions of all agents in the field of employment –about 300–, through a network that encompasses them and in which information is shared. The idea is to have a common platform for job offers.
In plenary session, the Minister of Labor and Employment, Idoia Mendia, intervened to defend the new rule and stated that “people are the driving force of this Law” because “it is their rights that open this Law, which are protected with the Public Employment Service-Lanbide”.
“Euskadi, for the first time, recognizes and defines decent work,” he highlighted and highlighted that with this law “Today we climb another step in the construction of self-government“, a law that guarantees “the quality in employment, a fair salary, security, equal opportunities and inclusion of diversity“.
According to Mendia, this law aims to “turn Lanbide around”, and he added that “It is not just about creating more jobs, but about creating better jobs.“.
The PP parliamentarian Laura Garrido has announced the abstention of his group, since he considers that “the opportunity has been lost to introduce or specify some issues in more detail” that the popular ones had raised with their amendments and he has described as “bad news” that the legal nature of Lanbide because “there will be much less control, less transparency and management will not improve.”
The Vox parliamentarian, Amaia Martínezrecalled that he requested the return of the bill to the Government because he considers that this legal text is “unnecessary” because “currently there is sufficient legal coverage to develop the substantial terms included in the Basque law.”
From the groups in the Government, Jon Aiartza (PNV) has highlighted that his group “has opted for this law to have the greatest possible consensus” while maintaining his “hand extended” and has highlighted the “firm and serious commitment” of the Government and parties that support him to promote a new “comprehensive governance model for employment with Lanbide as the backbone.”
Ekain Rico (PSE) has defended that with this law, Lanbide will be “prepared to respond to the needs” of Basque citizens. “This is a good law for the workers of Euskadi,” he stressed. The Cs parliamentarian Jose Manuel Gil has not participated in the debate.
