A 54-year-old amateur fisherman was rescued this morning after falling overboard while fishing on foot in the area of Cerreta on the island of Terceira in the Azores, it was announced this Friday.
According to the National Maritime Authority, the alarm was raised at the Ponta Delgada Maritime Search and Rescue Center (MRCC Delgada) late Friday evening and units from the Ponta Delgada Maritime Police Local Command were called to the scene. do Heroísmo and the volunteer firefighters of Angra do Heroísmo.
The fisherman was “in a difficult-to-reach area, on a cliff about 150 meters high, with signs of hypothermia,” the source said, adding that “the victim was stabilized on the spot.”
Also according to the National Maritime Authority, the rescue operation was carried out by a team of volunteer firefighters from Angra do Heroismo, after which the fisherman was taken to hospital.
The local command of the maritime police of Angra do Heroismo took responsibility for the incident, the press release also said.
