Prime Minister Antonio Costa on Saturday, in a Christmas and New Year message, praised the role of military and security forces and service agents in missions outside the country, noting that they have “contributed to the modernization of the Armed Forces.” and for the “prestige of Portugal”.
Costa was supposed to visit Portuguese troops stationed in Mozambique before Christmas with Defense Minister Helena Carreiras, but this was not possible due to family reasons, according to his department.
“I want to welcome each and every one, women and men, who serve on behalf of Portugal within NATO in Romania; within the UN – in the Central African Republic; within the EU – in Mozambique; and other places where we are present,” he said. He also thanked those in the country who “cannot be with their families because they have to serve at their posts, in their barracks, in their police stations.”
