The Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE) has seized more than 31,000 counterfeit goods worth €440,000 in an operation carried out in the Greater Porto Municipality, it was announced this Saturday.
The ASAE said in a statement that the operation confirmed that the business was retailing and wholesaling a variety of counterfeit products or imitating world-famous trademarks.
Among the items were sweaters, coats, scarves, tracksuits, T-shirts, various leather goods – women’s bags and wallets, costume jewelry, glasses and perfumes.
The relevant criminal cases were sent to the prosecutor’s office of the respective district, the ASAE note also notes.
According to the authority, as a criminal police authority, it will continue its activities in the fight against counterfeit products in order to protect market rules and free competition, protect industrial property rights, as well as consumer safety, to the extent that trade in counterfeit products can seriously threaten the health and safety of citizens.
