Alex Batty, a young Englishman found in France after disappearing in Spain, was celebrating Christmas with his grandmother in Oldham, UK.
The teenager said he had never celebrated Christmas, moving between hippie communes across Europe, but was glad to experience the holiday with his grandmother and celebrate Christmas with the gift of his favorite fizzy drink.
“When I was little I loved Irn-Bru and bought it from the corner store whenever I could. The same goes for Worcestershire sauce flavored chips. So my grandmother surprised me by giving me a huge pack of cans and two family ones… the size of a bag of chips,” Alex Batty said in an interview with the publication Sun.
Other gifts included a new cell phone and headphones, an Alexa device, a sketch pad and crayons, a bottle of water and football tickets.
The young man who disappeared at just 11 years old in the south of Spain while on holiday with his mother and grandfather, who also disappeared, he is now lives with her grandmother Susan Cuarana, 68. A boy’s legal guardian said he had the “best Christmas ever” following the shocking reappearance of his grandson.
“I still can’t believe Alex is home. I have to pinch myself. When he disappeared, I thought I would never see him again, and I need to get used to waking up in the morning and seeing him at home,” he said Sun.
The whereabouts of Alex’s mother and grandfather are still unknown.
Alex Batty did not have a proper education while in Europe and is now preparing to start university in January.
