Israel’s defense minister has threatened to launch a military operation in Lebanon to end persistent Hezbollah attacks, raising fears the conflict will spread.
“The situation on the border with Lebanon must change, and time is running out for diplomacy. If the international community and the Lebanese government do not take action to stop attacks on northern Israel and remove Hezbollah from the border, the IDF will have to do so,” warned Benny Gantz after one of several days of attacks in northern Israel.
At the same time, the commander of the Israeli Armed Forces, General Herzi Halevi, ensured that his forces were in a “high state of readiness” for any necessary action. “Our priority is to restore the security of the residents of Northern Israel,” he assured.
Meanwhile, Egypt announced that it had presented Israel and Hamas with a three-phase plan to end the war in Gaza, but refused to reveal details until the parties responded.
