Athlete Benjamin Kiplagat, who was born in Kenya but represented Uganda internationally, has been found dead in his home country and police are investigating the case on suspicion of murder.
“An investigation has been launched and police are looking for clues,” said law enforcement officials in Eldoret, in the Rift Valley, a renowned location for high-profile sports training.
Kiplagat, 34, was found in his car on Saturday evening near Eldoret. Police found that the body had injuries to the chest and neck, suggesting the athlete had been stabbed.
Benjamim Kiplagat represented Uganda in the 3000m hurdles, competing at the Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympics, as well as several World Championships.
