The number of notices of strikes in the public and private sectors will increase until November

According to official data, the number of strike notices to government agencies increased by 174% between January and November 2023 compared to the same period last year, to 811, and the number of notices to the Ministry of Labor rose by 48% to 1,279, according to official data.

According to the Directorate General of Administration and Public Employment (DGAEP), 811 strike notices were filed in the public sector until November 2023, compared to 296 in the same period the previous year.

The vast majority of strikes were registered in the education sector, with 620 notices filed, corresponding to approximately 75% of the total strikes, followed by health (57), justice (52) and local administration (37).

Data from the Directorate General of Employment and Labor Relations (DGERT) shows that a total of 1,279 strike notices were issued to the private and business sectors in the state between January and November 2023, a 48% increase over the same period.

Taking into account the DGERT data, the majority of strike notices were filed in the private sector (762), while 517 notices were filed in the public business sector.

According to DGERT, 179 minimum maintenance processes were carried out between January and November 2023.

Given the demands made by most trade union structures, increasing wages in the face of rising living costs has become one of the main reasons for the protests.

In the case of public administration, the education sector stood out in particular, namely the strikes of teachers with a demand to recalculate the length of service frozen under the “troika” – six years, six months and 23 days.
