Every year, Portugal makes the news again due to a controversial tradition in the village of Mirandela. To celebrate Three Kings Day, children and young people of all ages are allowed to smoke in the village of Vale de Salgueiro on January 5th and 6th. In many cases, adults give them cigarettes.

No one knows exactly how or when the Twelfth Day tradition began in Vale de Salgueiro, Mirandela, but it has been controversial from the very beginning.
