This Monday, Pope Francis called for a global ban on surrogacy and called the practice “deplorable” and a “serious violation of the dignity of women and children.”
In his speech to ambassadors accredited to the Holy See, Francis mentioned surrogacy, listing a number of threats to global peace and human dignity.
According to the Pope, the life of the unborn child should be protected and not “suppressed or trafficked.”
“I consider the practice of so-called surrogacy, which constitutes a serious violation of the dignity of women and children, based on the exploitation of the material needs of the mother, to be deplorable. I express hope for the efforts of the international community to ban this practice everywhere,” the Supreme Pontiff said, as quoted by Reuters.
