The man accused of entering a bar in Porto in March 2023 and trying to kill two people, a manager and a customer, apologized to the court this Monday for what happened.
“I want to apologize to everyone who was offended,” the defendant said in a statement before a panel of judges at the San Joao Novo court in Porto, where he was put on trial this Monday for two crimes of attempted murder.
The defendant explained that he never intended to harm or kill anyone, but simply wanted to scare someone who was inside the bar after he was attacked outside following an argument.
And he reinforced: “After the attack, I felt humiliated, and I wanted to scare them. [agressores] for what they did to me.”
When asked by the judge what happened the night of the crime, the suspect explained that he had gone to take a friend to a bar where he was going to pick up his girlfriend, who had gotten into an argument with some patrons on the street.
To defend himself, the defendant admitted that he went to get a gun from his father-in-law’s car and fired once at the door and twice inside.
Despite admitting to the shooting, the defendant emphasized that everything happened very quickly, it was very dark inside the establishment, and he did not intend to attack anyone in particular.
“I would never have done this if I was in my right mind, I was not in my right mind,” he admitted.
In turn, the bar manager, who suffered a neck injury, said that the defendant began shooting inside the bar, apparently very nervous.
This time, he added, there will be about 20 people in the nightclub.
The client, struck by gunfire and having a disagreement with the defendant’s friend, claimed that the defendant had pointed in his direction twice.
As a result, the victim stated that he was left limping because he was hit in the leg and was left in constant pain, despite having already undergone surgery.
“I have pain every day, basically I have to have surgery again, I do physical therapy every day, I can’t drive, run or play football,” he concluded.
The second court hearing was scheduled for January 18 at 14:00.
