Costa reminds the protesting teacher that he was the one who unfrozen teachers’ careers.

The Prime Minister returned this Wednesday to recall that it was his government that unfrozen the careers of teachers after he was approached by a teacher from Ponte de Lima who was in Elvas.

In Barcelos, on the sidelines of the opening of a hostel for students of the Polytechnic Institute of Cavado e Ave, António Costa was approached by Rui García, a teacher from Ponte de Lima who worked in Elvas and lives in a van.

“Do you know who unfrozen the careers? It was me,” the leader said at the end of the conversation with some tension that he maintained with this professor.

The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to recall the measure that will be implemented under which a teacher will be associated with the government if he completes 1,095 days of service.

“From that moment on he was associated with the state, this is the final contract, the instability is over,” he said.

Until now, the rule was to study for three years in a row, which teachers “had difficulty doing.”

On where teachers will teach, the Prime Minister said next year’s competition will be “absolutely decisive”.

“To increase the possibilities of placing people closer to the place of interest to them, employees of the pedagogical zone have been placed and the number of vacancies put up for competition has been significantly increased,” he explained.

Regarding support for laid-off teachers of a maximum of 200 euros to pay for house rent, Costa explained that the option was to cover two regions where housing costs are “much higher” than in the rest of the country, in particular Lisbon. Metropolitan and Algarve.

“So far, not a single dismissed teacher has received support,” he recalled.

Always addressing the prime minister as “Mr. António Costa”, Rui García said “it is not normal” the time it takes to appoint a teacher.

“I run the risk of retiring and being unemployed,” he said, adding that the approved diploma “does not correspond to the profile of the hired teacher.”

Costa then asked the current superintendent to take action to address the teachers’ concerns.

“I changed the rules to solve your problem and you swallowed it and didn’t say anything to any of the other prime ministers,” added Antonio Costa.
