Work on the Porto Metrobus between Boavista and Marshall Gomes da Costa avenues will begin on Monday and will last until the summer, Metro do Porto announced this Friday.
“From Monday, January 15, the metrobus intervention will begin at the intersection of Avenida da Boavista and Avenida do Maréchal Gomes da Costa,” can be read in a note published today by Metro do Porto on its website about the new lines.
According to the transport company, “this stage of work will last two months, after which work will move to other points at the intersection of these two avenues,” but in general, work at the intersection of the two avenues “will continue until the summer.”
“The first phase will cover the bus corridor and left turn lanes on Avenida da Boavista, as well as the garden areas at the beginning of the road. [avenida Marechal] Gomez da Costa. Pedestrian traffic in the area continues,” Metro do Porto details.

Work on the first phase began at the end of January 2023: the planned stations are Casa da Música, Guerra Junqueiro, Bessa, Pinheiro Manso, Serralves, João de Barros and Império, on the first route and on the section to Matosinhos. The service vehicles, similar to those used in the regular metro, will be built by a consortium that includes CaetanoBus and DST Solar, under a contract awarded for 29.5 million euros.
Initially, the metrobus project was planned only to Praça do Império, but since the cost of the grant (25 million euros) was lower than 66 million euros, the government decided to extend the service to Praça Cidade do Salvador, known as Anémona. , in Matosinhos.
According to a government decree published on November 17, the Porto metrobus will cost 10 million euros more than the originally planned 66 million.
The investment initially planned for the metrobus, amounting to 66 million euros, is fully financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), and an additional 10 million could also be financed by the PRR, the Environment Fund or the state budget.
