André Ventura spoke this Saturday at the VI National Convention of Chegi, the day he was re-elected as party president, and confirmed that MP Rita Matias is the national representative in the legislative elections.
“Our congress is much larger than that of the PS,” he began with a statement, despite the fact that Chegi had a thousand delegates (among 750 elected and permanent), 400 fewer than the Socialists elected to the main assembly last weekend .
The politician emphasized Chegi’s role in the two autonomous okrugs. “As a result, we received an absolute majority of the PSD in Madeira,” he emphasized. Regarding the current legislature, André Ventura recalled that Chega is “the party that presented the most proposals”, despite the blockade of the PS in parliament.
The first promise of the next legislature is to restore “equalization of missions among security forces.” According to Andre Ventura, current members of the PSP and GNR are “risking their lives without government support.” Another promise is that “there will be no elderly people in Portugal with a pension below the minimum wage” if they form a government. “The country cannot have pensions of 200 and 300 euros,” he emphasized. President Chegi also warned that he intends to use funds intended to promote gender equality to transfer them to former combatants.
On the issue of immigration, he clarified the party’s position: “We defend legal, fair and regulated immigration.” To illustrate this, he explained that “no house can survive with its doors and windows open.” Immigrants must “respect our customs,” he stressed.
Regarding the agreement on parliamentary influence reached between the PS, BE and PCP during António Costa’s minority government, André Ventura said that the current party leaders form a “trio of horrors”, referring to the film. “Mariana Mortagua [coordenadora do BE] He will probably combine his salary as a minister with that of an MP,” he joked. Pedro Nuno Santos, secretary general of the PS, “wants to return to PREC” and lives “in the country of 1974”, the date of the April Revolution.
In the March 10 legislative elections, the Portuguese will make a choice “between Chega and the PS,” he said, given the PSD’s lack of “strength.” The Social Democrats have “left the country without an alternative” and the country is “asking” Chegu for this alternative, he argued.
Andre Ventura expressed satisfaction with Chega’s youth vote. “Youth are our priority and their return is our goal,” he emphasized, taking advantage of the opportunity. “I don’t want to govern in the next election. I want to manage for the next generations,” he concluded.
