Guinean football coach Basiro Kande believed Ivory Coast’s 2-0 defeat was due to bad luck against a “great team” contenders for the African Cup of Nations (CAN).
At a press conference after the first game of the 34th Canadian Championship, held this Saturday in Abidjan, in a stadium with more than 60 thousand spectators, Cande said that the defeat was due to “individual mistakes of some players.”
“We conceded goals due to individual errors, which affected the team a little, but we created chances that could have given us another result in the first half. We were unlucky,” said the Guinea-Bissau coach.
Basiro Kande admitted the team were destabilized after conceding the opening goal in the fourth minute, although they responded well by “creating clear scoring opportunities” throughout the match.
“Guinea-Bissau played their match against a great team, but we were unlucky,” stressed Cande, who promised to correct the mistakes and prepare the team for the challenge on Thursday the 18th against Equatorial Guinea.
The coach noted that Guinea-Bissau “lost to title contenders” Ivory Coast but will be fighting for the six points they can still win if they beat Equatorial Guinea, as well as Nigeria on the 22nd.
“We know our limitations, but we came here to play our game,” he added.
