Andre Ventura says delegate who declared himself a fascist ‘clearly said it ironically’

André Ventura reacted this Sunday to the statements made by Chegi delegate Rui Cruz during the sixth National Congress of the Party. On Saturday, the delegate introduced himself as a “man”, a “family man”, a “grandfather” and a “fascist”.

“I am 65 years old and a Portuguese who has not come to terms with the state that Portugal has reached in terms of lack of ethics, and ethics are not republican. Ethics is a philosophical discipline that separates good from evil, right from wrong. And in Chege we clearly stated that we are no longer a political party. If we want to be another party, it is not worth being here, it is not worth the sacrifice of this person [aponta para André Ventura]. If we’re going to become another one, there’s no point. If we want to be different from others, we must embrace ethics in our DNA,” said Rui Cruz.

Speaking to reporters this Sunday, Andre Ventura said he felt “very uncomfortable” with the “huge dishonesty” with which the issue was being handled in the public sphere. “He obviously said this with irony,” President Chegi emphasized, admitting that he knew the delegate personally.

Regarding the promise to equalize all pensions to the national minimum wage, Andre Ventura considered the goal achievable “in six years.” “If I form a government and nothing works out, I will resign,” he assured.

Chega’s sixth national congress will conclude this Sunday in Viana do Castelo with elections of national bodies, a vote on changes to the statutes and a speech by the party president.
