The paid training of teacher candidates will be carried out in internship centers that can be established in any region of the country, both in public and private schools, the Minister of Education announced to Luse this Monday.
The order defining the new internship rules will be “published very soon” and stipulates that future teachers can undergo internships in any region of the country where there are internship centers, both in public and private schools, the minister told Lusa, denying the news announced in this Monday Público, which reported the intention to limit internships to regions where there is a large shortage of teachers.
“There are no restrictions for the regions where internship centers can be created,” assured Minister João Costa, telling Lusa what the conditions set out in the decree will be.
According to João Costa, “schools will have to provide student interns for classes, have a teacher-supervisor and work according to protocol with universities and polytechnics.”
The minister admitted that there are areas of the country where it is easier to distribute schedules, and others where it is more difficult, but confirmed that there are no restrictions in the diploma.
The new regime allows the creation of centers in both public schools and private institutions: in the public network, interns are paid by the state; In private institutions, the contracting organization is responsible for this.
“The state cannot determine how much a trainee earns in an institution that it does not control,” explained the minister responsible for the diploma, which allows future teachers to again undergo a paid internship, the total amount of which can reach 1,600 euros per month.
The new diploma also provides that future preschool teachers will be able to undergo internships in kindergartens.
The order, which will be signed by the ministers of education and finance, may appear in some schools as early as the next academic year.
